Beach huts might be small but their huge popularity has turned them into icons of the British seaside.
To celebrate their colourful presence on our coastline hut users are being asked to put forward their ‘Beach Hut of the Year’
i
n a competition that will see five coastal regions go head to head for the coveted award.
Entries can be submitted for
- Best Kept Hut,
- Best Design,
- Beach Hut Hero
- Best Beach Hut Name at www.beachhutoftheyear.co.uk
With over 20,000 beach huts in the UK there are plenty to choose from and entries are welcome from individuals, councils, regional tourist boards or beach hut associations. The public can take part by visiting the website and voting for their favourites. The competition, sponsored by TL Risk Solutions (www.tlrisksolutions.com) – the UK’s leading beach hut insurer, is open to anyone who wants to help celebrate the glory that is summer on the British coast.
Judging the competition will be:
- Dr Kathryn Ferry, seaside historian and author of Sheds on the Seashore: A Tour Through Beach Hut History
- Clare Gogerty, editor of Coast magazine
- Andrew Wing, beach hut photographer
- Jonathan Kitchen, Director of Private Clients at TL Risk Solutions
Chair of the Judges, Kathryn Ferry, says: “What I love about beach huts is that they’re different everywhere. People are really creative with decoration and names so this competition is a great opportunity for owners to show off their pride and joy. It will be hard picking a winner but I’m looking forward to the challenge!”
